"You're Not Helping"

Parishioners generally turn to their church and spiritual leaders first when in need. Church leaders often times feel helpless, however, in knowing how to provide care. Challenges such as mental illness, broken systems, volatile family dynamics, trauma and abuse can all complicate providing and accepting care. Both the carer and those receiving care can ultimately feel worse than before requesting help. Some leave the church. Some stay. Some stay ,but relationships are fractured. What to do to avoid hearing, "You're not helping."
